Community Tourism Conference in the Valleys
Rhymney Brewery has provided a package of investment support to sponsor:
- The annual Community Tourism Conference in the Valleys (23-24 April 2013)
- A highly novel 12 month programme (from June 2013) of ‘Living Landscape Lectures’ based in and promoting the outdoors
- Two stargazing events (Sept – Nov 2013) linked to the Dark Sky Wales initiative
All these initiatives are linked to promoting the Brewery’ new visitor centre, Blaenavon, which is also benefiting from wildflower planting, courtesy of Environment Wales. The Community Tourism Conference was delivered at Margam Park and is being evaluated.
‘All tourism in Wales should be community tourism’ – That was the message at the national conference which showcased how a form of tourism, linked to ‘Community Tourism Ambassadors’ in the South Wales Valleys, that involves and positively impacts local people, can benefit the prosperity of an area.
The event drew businesses and tourism specialists from across the UK to learn about how they can follow in the footsteps of The Valleys Regional Park - a network of visitor trails, facilities, country parks, heritage sites and nature reserves across the Valleys that has been developed through a partnership of more than 40 organisations working together. The overall aim is to utilise the natural environment and heritage of the Valleys as a social and economic regeneration driver.
